Glass House Mountains is a hinterland town in Sunshine Coast, Queensland. It is located approximately 64km north of Brisbane and has a population of 4791.

History

This area is named after the famous Glass House Mountains, and is often called ‘Glasshouse’ in short. Most of the foundations of the area were built on sugarcane, pineapple and farming.

The movie ‘Sinbad and The Minotaur’ was filmed in this area. However some of the mountains that were shown in the film have closed.

The Glass House Mountains have become a prominent geological feature of the Sunshine Coast. Visitors can visit the mountains for hiking and walks. You can get to the walking tracks easily by car, bike and train. There are a number of tracks that are classified by level of difficulty, catering for both beginners and advanced hikers. Hikers can enjoy the easy inclines and natural lookout points.
