Eumundi is a town in Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. It sits 118km north of Brisbane, a little way off the Bruce Highway. Eumundi has a population of more than 1,900.

History

Although cattle farms were based here from the 1850s onward, Eumundi wasn’t declared as a town until 1890. The name comes from “Ngumundi”, an Aboriginal warrior and clan leader. Thanks to the railway line between Yandina and Cooroy, Eumundi became a hub for the dairy and timber trades. The 20th century saw many shops spring up, as well as a town hall and two butter factories.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Thousands of people flock to Eumundi every Wednesday and Saturday. This is due to the local farmer’s markets, which are known as “Australia’s premier artisan markets”. Everything from fresh food to handmade toys can be browsed, including art, fashion and homewares. Eumundi has several Heritage buildings, such as Eumundi Arts School and St George’s Anglican Church. The town is surrounded by natural beauty, with the Eumundi Conservation Park just next door.
