Enoggera is a Brisbane suburb located 6km north-west from the central business district. It has a population of over 5,000.

History

The name Enoggera stems from a misspelling of the Turrbal word “Euogerra”. It was first settled by Europeans in the 1840s, with farming as the primary trade. It was part of its own local government area until 1925, when it became part of the City of Brisbane. The area had long been used for military purposes, and the Enoggera Barracks was officially opened in 1909. The barracks has since evolved into a modern military base. Enoggera Hill forms part of the barracks’ grounds.

Enoggera enjoys strong bus and train links to the rest of Brisbane. This suburb is home to Killarney, a Heritage-listed detached house on Laurel Street. Enoggera is a lush, leafy suburb with good parks. It features a mix of modern housing and traditional Queenslander designs, and is considered an excellent place to raise children.
