History

Eight Mile Plains took its name from the fact that the area is very flat. Also, it is 13km from Woolloongabba (then called One Mile Swamp). When settlers arrived in Brisbane, this is one of the first areas they stopped in.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Eight Mile Plains has a number of interesting landmarks. There is a heritage-listed property called Hughesville that is made of timber. It is a good example of the type of house present in Queensland in the late Colonial period.

The Brisbane Technology Park is located here. It was started by the Queensland government to encourage technology companies in their ventures.
