Based in the Moreton Bay region of Queensland, Deception Bay has a population of over 19,600. It is located 32 kilometres north of Brisbane’s central business district.

History

Deception Bay was named by Lt John Oakley who first thought the bay was a river. He originally named it Pumice Stone River and later changed it to Deception Bay when he realised his mistake. Nowadays, some people call the suburb D-Bay.

The land in the area was once used to support dairy and grazing farmers. It is now used to house its growing community. The beachfront area has recently been changed and the Bayswater Resort continues to be transformed. Deception Bay is also home to some heritage-listed sites including the Captain Cook Parade.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The suburb is in a sheltered location, which makes it ideal for fishing and boating. There are lots of timber boardwalks and cycleways with beautiful views of the bay. You can also find the perfect spot for a picnic or BBQ in with friends and family.

Deception Bay has a public swimming pool complex with an Olympic-size pool and toddler’s pool, as well as a BMX and skate park.
