Located in the City of Logan, the suburb of Crestmead was named after a local housing estate of the same name. The area is a mix of residential and commercial development. The population of the area is over 11,000 people.

History

The settlement was first established in 1885 when a number of Swedish settlers started to farm the land with a variety of crops and animals. The area was officially named Crestmead in 1987. An attempt to name it Hubner after the land-owning family of the same name was unsuccessful.

Dairy farming is a major employer in the suburb. The Dairy Farmers Factory on the Crestmead Industrial Estate was the location of a protest. On December 24th in 2012, workers protesting against rates of pay clashed with police after blocking the site.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The area has a state primary school and a Roman Catholic primary school. There are two community centres, one in the Community Park and the other within the grounds of St Francis College. Services including health clinics, dancing, and meeting halls are made available through these community centres.
