History

Coorparoo has a difficult history. Floods in 1889 and 1893 along with the depression in the 1890s hit the area hard. Around the turn of the 20th century development declined, and the number of houses decreased. Things improved a lot in later years particularly after a tram line was built.

There are many interesting things to see in Coorparoo including a handful of heritage-listed sites such as the old Coorparoo fire station and Queen Alexandra Home.

For those who enjoy a good cityscape, Kirkland Avenue offers a fantastic view out over the Brisbane CBD. A commercial development is also going to open in 2017 that will house a variety of shops, cafes and even a cinema.
