Coolum Beach is on the Sunshine Coast. It is a beachside town, and it has a population of 7,905.

History

The name Coolum comes from the word gulum or guloom. This word was a reference to the fact that Mt Coolum did not have a peak and so it looked flat.

Early industry in the area included cattle farming, sugarcane plantations and timber. A mailboat service was set up in 1909. This provided a link between the Yandina railhead and Coolum.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

People come to Coolum Beach on holiday or just for the day. Lots of holiday apartments and shops have been built recently.

One of the prominent features of the area is Mt Coolum. For spectacular views of the coastal area around, take a walk up the mountain through the Mt Coolum National Park.
