Clontarf is a suburb located 26km to the north of Brisbane. It is a mainly residential town with a population of around 8,000 people.

History

Clontarf is a part of the Redcliffe peninsula which was originally inhabited by the indigenous Ningy Ningy people. The first contact with European settlers took place in 1799 but a colony wasn’t developed here until the 1820s.

Clontarf is named after a place in Ireland, which was the birthplace of a pioneer called John McLoughlin.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Clontarf is a popular home for commuters for whom Brisbane is just a short journey away but it also provides a number of jobs in an industrial area in the west of town.

The town itself has two shopping centres, retail stores and many small businesses. For recreation, there are two beaches and Pelican Park, which is famous for its perfect kite flying conditions.
