Capalaba is a suburb in Queensland with a population of about 16,500. It is the second most populated suburb in the Redlands and situated south-east of Brisbane’s central business district.

History

The name Capalaba comes from the Yugarabul language and means “ringtail possum.” In the 1850s, Europeans settled in the area.

Capalaba grew in the 20th century and became a major source of fresh water for the Redland Shire. You can still find buildings that were built around this time in the town.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

This suburb has lots of shops and two big shopping centres. It also boasts a movie theatre and many sporting clubs.

There is the Capalaba bus station, which links the area to the Redlands and Eastern Brisbane. In addition to great local amenities, Capalaba is close to a coast and bay for fishing.
