Caloundra is a pretty coastal town on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. It is situated 90 kilometres north of Brisbane’s central business district and has a population of over 41,000.

History

An Englishman called Robert Bulcock bought 277 acres of land in the area in 1875. Pieces of land were then sold in 1883. The area became popular with tourists, as it was so close to beaches.

The son of Robert Bulcock, Robert Bulcock Jr divided parts of the land into 404 lots in 1917. During World War II, radar stations and gun pits were mounted along the beaches for the Australian and US armed forces.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Caloundra is home to lots of beaches including Shelley Beach, Golden Beach and Bulcock Beach to name a few. The area now has plenty of good cafes, restaurants and hotels.

There is a wide range of activities available in Caloundra too. From playgrounds and parks to fishing and surfing, the town has so much to offer everyone.
