The busy town and suburb of Burpengary located in the Moreton Bay Region. It is situated 35km from the central business district of Brisbane. The area gained its name from the Aboriginal word meaning “place of green wattle” and it has a population of almost 13,000.

History

The area was first established as a truck stop because of its location on what is now the Sunshine Coast. The area still has a fully operational weighbridge that is in use to this day. Although the area was originally a suburb made up of manual labour workers, this has changed over the years.
The recent urban development of the area and the influx of professionals into the area continue to fuel the town’s economic growth. Improvements in the transport system and the extension of the shopping area are some of the results of this growth.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The town of Burpengary boasts the Caboolture Regional Aquatic Centre with an Olympic size pool and it is home to several water sports teams. There are 3 primary schools and 3 state secondary schools.

Transport links are provided by the close access to the M1 highway, a local bus service, and the Queensland Rail City Network.
