Bundamba is a suburb of Ipswich, located 6km from the city centre. It’s a large suburb, stretching from the Bremer River to the Cunningham Highway. Bundamba has a population of more than 5,000.

History

The name Bundamba comes from a Yugarabul Aboriginal word. It’s said to mean “the place of the stone axe”. Known as “Bundumba” and “Bundanba” at various points, the name was standardised as Bundamba in 1932. The suburb was part of old Redbank – Bundamba Loop Line, which was built to service coal mines. Bundamba State School opened in 1873, and is still in use today.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Bundamba features numerous sports and leisure facilities. These include Ipswich Racecourse, Bundamba Swim Centre, and Ipswich Knights Soccer Club. A ten pin bowling and roller skating centre is also based in the area. This suburb is known for two popular parks: Rotary Park and Alfred Seymour Park.
