Buderim is a coastal area on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. It has a population of over 39,000 and sits at the top of a large mountain.

History

The name Buderim comes from the Kabi Kabi language and means “hairpin honeysuckle.” This town used to be a place to find timber. In the 20th century, the Buderim Ginger Factory was built, which was the largest facility of its kind. It later closed and moved near to Yandina.

Between 1914 and 1935, a small railway ran from Buderim to Palmwoods. It enabled locals to take their produce from Buderim farms to market. The railway closed in 1935.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Foote Sanctuary in Buderim offers beautiful walking paths and BBQ facilities. The area is also home to Buderim Falls, which has lots of native wildlife.

Buderim has some excellent schools for kids. It also has art galleries, tempting restaurants and upmarket shops. Local heritage sites include Pioneer Cottage, Canambie Homestead and Buderim House.
