Ashmore is a suburb of Gold Coast with a population of 11,586. It sits to the south-west of Southport along the Nerang River.

History

In 1976, a housing estate was developed in Ashmore Village. The modern suburb of Ashmore takes its name from that housing estate. Most of the houses in the suburb were built during the 1970s and 1980s.

The suburbs population has increased since it was established. In 1981, the population was just 5,661. By 2001, it was 10,586. The number has stayed relatively steady since 2006 when it was 11,514.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Shoppers in Ashmore flock to Southport-Nerang Road. This road is home to Ashmore City Shopping Centre, as well as many large stores. Visitors and residents also enjoy two other neighbourhood shopping centres.

Ashmore is mainly a residential area. However, the suburb also hosts three retirement villages. Local restaurants include Hungry Jack’s, Pizza Hut, and Red Rooster.
