History

The area has a rich history of dairy farming. Early local landmarks were the St Kilda Estate and the Junction Hotel. Annerley used to be part of the Shire of Stephens. It became part of the City of Brisbane in 1925.

The suburb started life under the name of Boggo. Locals considered calling it Richmond in the late 19th century. Future Premier of Queensland Digby Denham suggested Annerley instead. The name was chosen to avoid confusion with other places named Richmond. The name comes from a township in Surrey.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Annerley is home to the Annerley Junction Traders Association. The Association hosts several events including an annual jumble sale and Christmas fair.

Historic sites in the area include the former Stephens Shire office and the Hefferan Park Air Raid Shelter.
