Amberley is a small suburb of the City of Ipswich. It is home to 280 people and lies 50 kilometres south-west of Brisbane. The city centre of Ipswich is also only 12km from Amberley.

History

James and Martha Collett were responsible for giving the settlement its current name. In the 1850s the couple named their residence after their English hometown Amberley in West Sussex. A decade later, the region already had its own school.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Amberley is home to Australia’s largest operational Air Force base – the RAAF Base Amberley. It employs more than 5,000 people.

Just south of town lies the scenic Fassifern Valley. It is a very rural and agricultural region. The farmers here mainly grow crops such as carrots, tomatoes, onions, and pumpkins. The Fassifern Valley also offers some great hiking trails and scenic views for outdoor enthusiasts.
