Agnes Water lies in the heart of Queensland in the Gladstone Region. It is located 60km off the Bruce Highway providing its visitors and 1,800 inhabitants with easy access to Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.
History
The area now known as Agnes Water was once home to the indigenous Mehrooni people. In 1883 Daniel Clowes named his pastures “Agnes” in honour of a coastal schooner that sank in the area in the 1870s. That’s how the town got its name. Due to Agnes Water’s wide beaches, it quickly became a popular holiday destination.
Lifestyle and Entertainment
Agnes Water’s main attraction is its 5,5km long beach. Low dunes build the backdrop and there is plenty of local vegetation to discover. It is also a good area for surfing.
Those wanting to find out more can visit the town’s visitor centre on Round Hill Road. Pack your tent and discover the coastal camping reserve or pay the Agnes Water Museum a visit.
