Wyong is a small town located 89km north-east of Sydney. It is a part of the Central Coast region and has a population of around 3,600 people.

History

One of the first Europeans to settle in the area was a man named William Cape. Cape is best remembered as a headmaster but he used the land granted to him in Wyong to raise cattle and sheep.

Wyong takes its name from an indigenous word which is thought to mean either ‘place of running water,’ or ‘an edible yam’.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Wyong has a small but busy town centre with a shopping centre and a number of banks, offices and community services. Important historical sites include the Chapmans Store, the Court House and the Wyong Milk Factory.

There are plenty of sport and leisure facilities in the area including the Wyong Racecourse which hosts weekly race meetings.
