Wetherill Park is a suburb of Sydney, 34km west of the CBD. Part of the Greater Western Sydney region, it has a population of over 6000.

History

The Cabrogal clan of the Gandangara tribe has lived in the area of Wetherill Park for over 30,000 years. During European settlement, Wetherill Park was named after a businessman who offered 21 acres of his land to the State government for use as a park.

100 years ago, there weren’t enough homes to need a school. Due to the commencement of the Prospect Reservoir Waterworks, Samuel Booth, a local storekeeper, made available part of his land for the use of a school for free. The school, named Macquarie Park, opened in 1882 but was changed to Boothtown.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Wetherill Park is home to a large recreational park and an urban forest, Wetherill Park Nature Reserve. It’s also home to Emerson Street Reserve, a sports ground.
