West Wallsend is part of the City of Lake Macquarie in NSW. The small town is home to about 1,700 people.

History

West Wallsend started as a coal mining town in the 1880s. The biggest mining enterprise was the West Wallsend Colliery. The company gradually expanded. The result was the creation of the small town of West Wallsend. Mining does not play such an important role in the town’s current economy anymore. West Wallsend’s last mine closed in May 2016.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

West Wallsend is a tranquil town on the east coast. It has several schools and supermarkets, so you find everything you need. It is also home to the football club West Wallsend FC. The club was founded in the 1890s by a group of Scottish miners.

From West Wallsend, you have easy access to the Sydney-Newcastle Freeway and the western parts of Newcastle.
