History

The locality takes its name from William Charles Wentworth. It is close to Mildura, Victoria.

The name Wentworth officially came into place in 1860.

Prior to the development of railways the area was an important river port.

The town floods often because it lies at the confluence of the rivers. In 1956 both rivers flooded leading to a state of emergency.

The region features colonial tourist attracts. Notably, Wentworth Gaol, PS Ruby and the Perry Sandhills.

Every five years, the town holds a tractor rally to commemorate the 1956 flood.

The area is an outback tourist destination. It has a small population due to the arid climate. Notably, the town has an Aussie Rules team competing in the Sunraysia Football League.
