Wagga Wagga is a major city based in the Riverina region of New South Wales. It has a population of over 55,800 and is the state’s largest inland city.

History

The word Wagga comes from the Wiradjuri people and it’s thought to mean “crow”. Settlers arrived in the area in the 1800s before being labelled as a village in 1849.

During World War I, the town was used as the starting point of the Kangaroo March. Wagga Wagga was also home to an Australian Army camp throughout World War II. After the war, Wagga Wagga was proclaimed a city.
