Unanderra is on the outskirts of Wollongong. It is 10km from the Wollongong central business district. It is located on the Illawarra coastal plain. It has a population of 5,886.

History

Unanderra was at first named Charcoal Creek or Charcoal. This was after one of the main waterways that flowed through the region. In 1956 the Unanderra Hotel was constructed. It is still very popular with tourists today.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Unanderra is a suburb of two halves. Princes Highway divides it into the western, residential side and the eastern, industrial side. It has a number of historic buildings that are interesting to visit. On Princes Highway there is a commercial area with shops. This includes a Woolworth’s supermarket.

Unanderra is on the edge of the Mt Kembla foothills. You get an unusual view of this mountain from Princes Highway.
