Tweed Heads is a city in New South Wales located on the Tweed River. It lies next to the Queensland border and to its twin town of Coolangatta. It has a population of over 7,500.

History

The first European to see the Tweed Valley was John Oxley in 1823. Timber cutters moved to the Tweed Valley in 1844. After the timber was cleared, bananas, cane, and dairy farming dominated the area.

Tweed Heads is referred to as a town where people can change time zones and even celebrate New Year twice in an hour by crossing the street. This is due to its Queensland Border and because New South Wales observes daylight saving whereas Queensland does not.

Lifestyle and Entertainment
Tweed Heads economy is heavily based on tourism. Popular tourist destinations include Mt Warning, one of the largest shield volcanoes in the Southern Hemisphere. It is also close to many national parks full of subtropical animals and plants.
