History

Tuggerah is known for being a dairy area in history, like much of the wider Wyong area. Even today, the locality houses the Pioneer Dairy Wetlands.

The Wyong South sewerage plant is also located in the suburb. As such, it is important to the infrastructure of the Central Coast, over time.

An airstrip was located in the area but was built over. The area is now a key shopping and business hub in the wider region.

The name of the locality is an indigenous word meaning “savannah grasslands”. The area is surrounded by greenery so the name is often referenced in modern times.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Shopping is a key focus in the area at Westfield Tuggerah and the super centre. As a result, the suburb has strong economic significance despite its low population. The area is favoured by retirees from larger urban centres.
