Toukley is a town on NSW’s Central Coast. It is 107 kilometres north of Sydney. It has a population of over 4,100.
History
The area was once the home of the Darkinjung people. The area was likely also home to the Awabakal and Wanaruah people. All were skilled hunters, fishers and gatherers.
Gold prospector Edward Hargraves bought a large property in the area in 1856. It was named ‘Norahville’. It is now the site of Toukley’s neighbouring suburb, Noraville. Hargraves’ discovery of gold in a NSW creek in 1851 set off a gold rush.
Toukley Public School was founded in 1891.
The Norah Head Lighthouse was built in 1903. Many ships had wrecked along the coastline prior to this. It was the site of sea battles between Japanese and merchant navy ships in World War II.
The Toukley Bridge was built in 1939. It joins Toukley to neighbouring Gorokan. It was rebuilt in 1985.

Toukley sits on the coastline of the Pacific Ocean. It is a one and a half hour drive from Sydney. This makes it a popular holiday spot year-round.
