With a population of over 2,800 people, Terrey Hills is a suburb in Sydney’s Northern Beaches. This leafy suburb lies 25km north of Sydney’s Central Business District.

History

Terrey Hills takes its name from Samuel Hills and Obediah James Terrey, two of the original landholders. In 1881, Terrey owned 640 acres and Hills owned 100 acres.

Prior to the arrival of European settlers, the area was home to the First Peoples of Australia. Evidence of their inhabitancy exists in the form of rock carvings. One of these carvings can be found near Larool Road and shows hunting scenes of humans, kangaroos and footprints.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Terrey Hills is a quiet suburb that is popular with families. There are six schools in the area, including the Northern Beaches Christian School, Kinma School, and Terrey Hills Public School.

An abundance of sporting facilities exists in Terrey Hills. Among these are several BMX tracks, two golf courses, and two tennis centres.
