The town of Tenterfield lies in between Brisbane and Sydney. It played an important role in promoting the federation of the colonies.
Today it has a population of 3,300.

History
The first premier of NSW, Sir Stuart Donaldson, named the town after his ancestral home in Scotland. He had 18,000 sheep on an area of land covering more than 100,000 acres.

In the mid-1800s the town was given gazetted status, and the development of a bank, church and district court soon followed.

During the Second World War Tenterfield hosted thousands of soldiers to guard against a Japanese invasion of the area.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Nowadays the town’s main industries are cattle breeding, and the production of wool from Merino sheep.
