St Ives is a suburb located just 18km north of the Sydney central business district. It is a part of the Ku-ring-gai local government area and has a population of over 15,500 people.

History

The area now known as St Ives was once covered in thirty metre high trees but the landscape changed soon after settlers arrived. The first exploration of the area took place in 1788 when Governor Arthur Phillip established a campsite in Bungaroo.
The native turpentine trees which grew there provided the perfect timber for cabinet making and timber felling industry was soon established.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Today, St Ives has a 110 store shopping centre which is popular with residents and visitors alike.

Opposite the St Ives Shopping Village is the Village Green, a park which has a number of sporting fields, and leisure facilities. St Ives is also home to the Dalrymple-Hay Nature Reserve which is listed on the Register of the National Estate.
