Springwood is a small town situated in the picturesque Blue Mountains of New South Wales. It is located approximately 72km west of Sydney and has a population of around 8,500 people.

History

The area on which the town of Springwood now stands was originally inhabited by the indigenous Oryang-Ora aboriginal clan who are believed to have existed in the area for around 40,000 years. It was renamed Springwood on account of its freshwater springs and the Mountain Blue Gum trees which grew in the area.

The town developed after a visit from Governor Lachlan Macquarie in 1815 and the main street was named Macquarie Road in his honour.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The main shopping and commercial area of Springwood is around Macquarie Road. For the more adventurous visitor, Springwood has many reserves, parklands and bushwalks, some of which lead into the Blue Mountains World Heritage area.
