Silverwater is a suburb of Sydney. It’s 20km west of the central business district, and is best known for Silverwater Correctional Complex. Silverwater has a population of more than 3,100.

History

The area was first settled by the Wangal people. Europeans arrived in the 1790s, and the town developed over the course of the 19th century. It soon became a prominent industrial area. Many companies base themselves here, some of which have done so for decades. Once part of the Auburn City Council, Silverwater joined the City of Parramatta in 2016.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Silverwater is home to several small cafes and restaurants. Red Yard is close by, and offers many more retail and dining options. The residential areas are popular with families, and the Silverwater Bridge is a noted landmark. This suburb is also near to the Sydney Olympic Park. Silverwater boasts excellent transport links to the rest of the city.
