Silverdale is a small town in Wollondilly Shire, New South Wales. It is close to the community of Warragamba and lies 55 kilometres west of Sydney. The population is over 3,439.

History

At one time the land was part of the dense Mulgoa Forest. First known as Mulgoa Forest Mountain, Silverdale became the official name in the 1890s. The name is thought to come from an English town or village.

Silverdale began to thrive with the construction of the Warragamba Dam. It remains behind the local city of Penrith for development. There are, however, a number of new housing estates in the area. The nearby Badgery Creek is the proposed site for the Second Sydney Airport.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Silverdale is extremely popular with families. It features a medical centre, post office, supermarket, hairdressers and a fitness studio. Education takes place at the neighbouring Warragamba Public School and Glenmore Park High School. The main water supply for Sydney comes from the Warragamba Dam.
