Sans Souci is nestled on the shore of Botany Bay. It is a suburb of Sydney, and is 17km to the south of the Central Business District. It has a population of 8,557.

History

Sans Souci is named after one of the large houses that was built there in the mid-1800s by Thomas Holt. Holt also built a second property at Marrickville where he housed alpacas and also bred rabbits that were used for hunting.

In 1887 a steam tram was introduced to the area. In 1937 an electric trolley bus was installed instead, and this ran until 1959. The electric trolley bus was silent.

Sans Souci is a residential suburb on the water’s edge. It has a number of useful services including shops, a post office and several places to buy fast food. There are also a number of parks, a sailing club, a yacht club and a motor boat club so that people can enjoy the outdoors.
