FAQs

  • What is the specialty of Brave Hair?

Cutting. And I specialize in dry cut. A philosophy where the hair is cut dried either from a natural dry or blow dried. You can see the cut taking shape. Dry cutting will give you a more realistic look and it suits a lot of people.

  • How long have you been a hairdresser for?

I started my apprenticeship in 1986 with VIP Hairdressing in my hometown: Moree, I came to Port in 1991. So I started by renting a chair or contracting. (working within a business)

  • When did Brave Hair open?

It was Nov 2004. Actually the day after the Melbourne Cup, the freehold for this building came up 3 months before & we negotiated to buy the shop. Before that I was as at Nefertiti for a decade. I did that for well over 10 years. From 92-2004.

  • Do you have a wide variety of clientele?

Yeah, mostly between 25-55, professional, working people. Some kids. I get younger & older clients as well, So I totally cater my working hours to suit those people. I work by appointment.

  • Where do you see Brave Hair going?

I'd like to keep it personal. My customers enjoy the one on one service I provide and they love the personal space. I just want to keep improving. That's my main focus and my passion.

  • What was your incentive for Brave Hair?

I thought to have my own creative space that was the big incentive.

  • What is the major difference between Brave Hair & others?

Space is much smaller, not cramped but intimate. Sort of a garden feel when you look out the window. The Hustle & bustle is away but we are still close to Port Macquarie's CBD. It's a nice environment, a nice place to do hair and our clients like it, that and the one on one service. The clients are nice too, so it makes it a good work environment as well.

  • What do you use as inspiration?

There's an annual convention called Hair Expo & I've been frequenting that for 16 years, It's held in Darling Harbour and it's a trade expo. That's where I get my inspiration and some new ideas. I also get some inspiration from other hairdressers, friends in the industry and magazines.

  • So would you say you are quite progressive?

Yes. I'm always working to make myself a better hairdresser, I always want to be better.

  • You're aspiring?

Yeah, There's so many aspects of hairdressing that you can't be good at everything so there's always room for improvement. Always.
