Orange is a city with a population of around 40,000 people. It is a part of the Central West region of New South Wales, located 254km west of Sydney.

History

The area now known as Orange was previously a convict settlement called ‘Blackman’s Swamp’ established by Captain Percy Simpson in 1822.

Though Orange has always been well known as a thriving fruit-growing industry, oranges are not one of the many fruits it produces. It was actually named in honour of Prince William of Orange in 1846 though settlement began as early as 1829.

Orange has become a popular tourist destination for a number of reasons, not least its reputation for gourmet food and its growing wine industry.
