New Lambton in New South Wales is one of Newcastle’s most convenient suburbs. It situated 6 kilometres west of Newcastle’s central business district and has an estimated population of over 9,000.

History

The family-friendly suburb of New Lambton was once a coal mining town. In 1889, the area consisted of 2,560 acres of land. By 1901, it had a population of 1,464.

During World War II, New Lambton Public School was used as No. 2 Fighter Sector Headquarters. In remembrance of its previous use, the school was allowed to fly the Royal Australian Air Force Ensign in 1995. This is the only school in Australia to ever fly the flag.

New Lambton boasts some of the best parks, bushlands and playgrounds in the Newcastle region. It has great schools and is only a short drive to major shopping centres. However, you can find shops, cafes and restaurants on the doorstep.
