History
Narara is an Aboriginal term meaning ‘black snake’. It can be found on the Central Coast. The local people include the Kuringgai and the Darkinjung.
In 1983 and 1984 was the Narara Music Festival. It was located in Somersby, a neighbouring suburb. Bands who played included Men at Work and the Eurythmics.
Lifestyle and Entertainment
Narara is four kilometres from Gosford’s central business district. A largely residential area, Narara has a train station. This runs on the Central Coast and Newcastle Line. It has numerous sporting grounds and parks, including a skate park.
Narara contains the Narara Ecovillage. This is a 64-hectare property almost completely surrounded by forest. Narara is host to the Ecoburbia festival. In 2015 it won the title of Best Community Event from the local council.
