Welcome to Lennox Head, NSW
Lennox Head is a seaside village in NSW’s Northern Rivers region. It is approximately 740 kilometres north-east of the Sydney CBD. It has a population of over 7,400.
History
Lennox Head’s headland was created in the Cenozoic Era. It was part of one of the lava flows from the Tweed Volcano, centred on what is now Mt Warning. Tweed is a shield volcano. This is a type of volcano usually built almost entirely of fluid lava flows and lies low to the ground.
The lava spread south and east in a succession of flows. These covered an older landform uplifted from the ocean bed in the Mesozoic Era to varying depths.
Prior to European settlement, the area was home to the Bundjalung people.
Lifestyle and Entertainment
The headland is popular with surfers and hang-gliders, who launch off its 65m cliff. It is a popular spot to watch the dolphins surfing and the annual whale migration. The headland’s Pat Morton lookout offers spectacular views.
Lake Ainsworth is a freshwater lake that has distinctive tannin-stained waters. The lake is subject to blue-green algae, which bloom in warmer months.
