Kurnell is a New South Wales suburb that sits on the south eastern headland of Botany Bay. With a population of over 2000, Kurnell is just over 21 kilometres south of Sydney’s central business district.

History

Captain James Cook first landed on Kurnell’s shores in 1770 while exploring the East Coast of Australia on The Endeavour. He and his crew mapped the area and collected plant specimens. Today, you can find Cook’s landing place marked by a monument in the northern part of the Kurnell Peninsula.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Kurnell has a lot on offer for outdoorsy types. Fishing, sailing, scuba diving and windsurfing are all popular activities, and there’s a free shuttle bus service during whale watching season. An annual triathlon is held in Kurnell with running tracks weaving through Botany Bay National Park. There’s even a 4WD park at Boat Harbour Beach – perfect for thrill seekers.
