Kingswood is a suburb located 49km west of the Sydney central business district. It is a part of the local government area of the City of Penrith and has a population of around 9,100 people.

History

Kingswood is named after Governor Phillip Gidley King whose family once owned land in the area. It was originally known as Crossroads but was officially given the name ‘Kingswood’ in 1887.

The land was once heavily forested with areas used for farming but when the railway arrived in 1862, it was subdivided and development began. The first post office in the area opened in 1887.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Although a small, quiet town, Kingswood has a number of shops, parks and facilities and is home to the Western Sydney Records Repository. It is serviced by the Kingswood Railway Station which is part of the Sydney Trains network.

Kingswood has an Anglican Church, several schools and is also the site of a campus of the University of Western Sydney.
