Kiama is a seaside town with a population of more than 12,800. It is popular with tourists during summer months and lies just 120 kilometres south of Sydney.

History

This area used to be covered in rainforest. Evidence shows indigenous tribes lived here as long ago as 17,000 years. Kiama lies on two former volcanic flows and many visitors today come to see the Kiama Blowhole.

In the 1800s European settlers generated trade including cedar felling and wheat farming. The town is also recognised as one of the birthplaces of the Australian dairy industry.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Today Kiama is a town where people work away or have summer homes in the area. The town’s population more than triples during the summer months.
Visitors come to see the Kiama Blowhole and enjoy the town’s many beaches, cafes, restaurants and seaside culture.
