Kiama Downs is a coastal suburb of Kiama in New South Wales. It is 120 kilometres south of Sydney’s CBD. It has a population of more than 5,200.

History

Kiama Downs was once home to the Wodi Wodi people of the Dharawal tribe. The first European to explore the area was Kiarnay Smith in 1797. European settlers first arrived in 1810 to harvest cedar.

Kiama Downs is primarily residential. It offers picturesque beaches and seaside views.

Kiama Downs has no school or railway station. The nearest public schools are in neighbouring Kiama and Minnamurra. The nearest railway stations are Minnamurra and Bombo.

Kiama Downs does have a small commercial sector. Local shops include a supermarket, pharmacy and restaurants.

The western part of the suburb is a residential estate. It was developed in the 1980s and nicknamed ‘Gainsborough’.
