The thriving town of Jindera is located in the Riverina region of New South Wales. 15km north of Albury, the region’s centre, it has a population of around 1,809.
History
The first European explorers to pass through the region were Hamilton Hume and William Hovell in 1824. However, their friend John Dight was the first to occupy the land. It was briefly known as Dwight’s Forest.
In 1840, the first wattle and daub hut was built. This still exists and can be seen in the Jindera Pioneer Museum. During the 1860s, many German immigrants in search of land settled in Dight’s Forest. Soon after it became known as Jindera.

Jindera’s steady growth and plentiful amenities make the town a popular choice for families.
The fascinating Pioneer Museum offers an insight into the town’s colourful past. It has an extensive collection of machinery, household goods and furniture dating back many years. Wagner’s Store, a replica 19th-century shop, is the entrance to the museum.
