Jerrabomberra is a suburb of Queanbeyan, New South Wales. It lies 15km to the west of Canberra and has a population of 9,420.

History

The word Jerrabomberra is from the Aboriginal phrase meaning ‘Youngsters’ Meeting Place’. Many years ago, the land encompassing what is now Queanbeyan, was known as the Limestone Plains. John Palmer purchased this land in 1827 to use it as a farm holding. He named it Jerrabomberra.

A relatively new suburb, the building of the first residential properties took place in 1988. The area soon developed, growing from a mere 8 residents in 1828 to over 9,000 at the last census.

Jerrabomberra is a thriving suburb in which many families live. A commuter belt location, most residents work in Canberra or Queanbeyan.

The suburb has three defined areas – The Park, The Heights and Lakeview. Amenities include a shopping centre, sports facilities and a medical centre.
