Glendenning is a quiet suburb in the local government area of the City of Blacktown. It is just 44km to the west of Sydney and is home to a population of around 5,000 people.

History

Glendenning is named after a butcher called William Glendinning. The Scotsman had a shop in nearby Plumpton and a slaughter yard in Lamb Street, in what is now known as Glendenning, sometime around the early 1900s. The name was chosen by
Blacktown City Council.

The town was officially granted suburb status as recently as 1987.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Glendenning is home to the spectacular Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga. This magnificent cathedral-sized church cost $7.3 million to build and was opened by the King of Tonga, George Tupou V in 2008.

The town also has a number of shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants as well as soccer field located in the Glendenning reserve on Golding Drive.
