Fairfield is a western suburb of Sydney located 29km west of the Sydney CBD. One of Australia’s most multicultural cities, it has a population of over 17,000 people.

History

Fairfield has been home to the Cabrogal-Gandangara tribe for over 30,000 years. The earliest record of white settlement is described in the journal of William Bradley. Here, he notes an expedition from Rose Hill to Prospect Creek. Bradley describes a place on the creek where freshwater changed to saltwater.

In 1807, a soldier in the NSW Corps called Breton Gabriel Louis Marie Huon de Kerrileau, received a grant of 100 acres in the centre of Fairfield which he named Castel Paul.
