The coastal town and holiday resort of Evans Head forms part of the Richmond Valley Shire in the Northern Rivers region of NSW. It lies 726km north of Sydney and has a population of 2,722.
History
The town is named after Lt Evan RN who carried out the first marine survey of the coastline in that region.
The former RAAF Bombing Gunnery School, established in 1940, is now the location of the town’s airport. During the Second World War, Evans Head was home to 1,776 military personnel. The training school was the largest of its kind in Australia.

Nestled between Bundjalung National Park and Broadwater National Park, Evans Head is a popular holiday destination and fishing village. The town plays host to one of the largest holiday parks in NSW.
