Cootamundra is a town in New South Wales. It’s located in the South West Slopes region, and forms part of the Gundagai Council. It also lies within the Riverina. Cootamundra has a population of more than 5,600.

History

Once home to the Wiradjuri people, Cootamundra became a European settlement in 1841. The Cootamundra Run stock run was the first building, pathing the way for the town’s declaration in 1861. A gold rush caused an early boom, and the Riverina’s fertility saw Cootamundra flourish as a farming town long after the gold ran out. Cootamundra was gazetted as a municipality in 1884. In 1908, Cootamundra became the birthplace of Don Bradman, one of the greatest cricketers ever to play the sport.
