Based in New South Wales, Chullora is a suburb in Sydney. It falls under the Canterbury-Bankstown Council and the Municipality of Strathfield. Chullora is 15km west of Sydney’s Central Business District. According to the 2014 census, Chullora has a population of 70 people.

History

Chullora formerly fell into the larger area of Liberty Plains. Liberty Plains was a parcel of land given to settlers in 1793. In the 1950s, many European immigrants lived in the area.

In the second World War, Chullora was the site of a major wartime manufacturing plan. It produced plane components, tanks, HE Bombs and more. Over 2,000 men and women worked in the factory.

The name Chullora comes from the native word meaning “flour”.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

These days, Chullora is an industrial area filled with warehouses and factories. Some of these buildings include the Tip Top Bakeries and the OfficeMax warehouse. The area is also home to the printing plants for Fairfax and News Corp Australia.

The largest postal distribution centre in the Southern Hemisphere sits in Chullora. Researchers guess that half of Australia’s deliveries go through Chullora.
